Keep your flybuys card handy in your Apple Wallet

Apple sums up Wallet pretty well;

With Wallet, you can use passes on your iPhone to check in for flights, get and redeem rewards, get in to movies, or redeem coupons. Passes can include useful information like the balance on your coffee card, your coupon’s expiration date, your seat number for a concert, and more.

Unfortunately, you can’t just scan any old barcode and keep it in Wallet – you can only add Wallet passes from apps (like Stocard or Ticketek), websites (like Velocity Frequent Flyer), SMS/AirDrop/Email, or a QR Code.

While Woolworths are totally onboard with Apple Wallet, having supported Woolworths Rewards for almost two years, Coles & flybuys are still dragging their feet.

Luckily, it’s very easy to add your flybuys card to Apple Wallet – I’ve put together a simple generator that creates a pass – all that is needed is your barcode number (name and membership number, to match the physical card) and you can add it to Wallet.

For details on how, head to the flybuys page, or straight to the generator at https://tapdownunder.au/generate/flybuys/

Of course, this is merely a barcode without any of the magic that makes Wallet great – you can’t get your flybuys balance, and you can’t tap your phone (as with Woolworths) – Coles needs to implement this themselves.

As it’s also just a 2D barcode – this won’t sync to your Apple Watch, and at some times it can be a little fiddly to get it to scan. Remember to use the dedicated scanners that are usually situated near the eftpos terminal.
